How many games can Wisconsin win in 2024? Where will the 3 rivalry trophies end up? And Wisco plays how many top 10 teams at home?
Week 1 – Western Michigan at Wisconsin
Friday Aug 30th – 8:00 PM
Line: Wisconsin -24.5
Prediction: Win – Wisco 38, Western Michigan 14
This week 1 tune-up game goes very similarly to last year’s. A slow start offensively, but then they take off once Bucky commits to the run.
Week 2 – South Dakota at Wisconsin
Saturday Sept 7th – 2:30 PM
Line: TBD
Prediction: Win – Wisco 31, South Dakota 10
South Dakota is the 5th ranked FCS team in the country. That would make them just a tiny bit better than Western Michigan. This game will never feel close.
Week 3 – 5 Alabama at Wisconsin
Saturday Sept 14th – 11:00 AM
Line: Alabama -9.5
Prediction: Loss – Alabama 28, Wisco 20
Wisconsin covers the 9.5, but Alabama is just too good. Unless Tyler Van Dyke is the next Russ, I don’t see Wisconsin pulling the upset here. Side note – It’s a tragedy that this game is at 11:00 AM.
Week 4 – OFF
Week 5 – Wisconsin at 23 USC
Saturday Sept 28th
Line: USC -5.5
Prediction: Win – Wisco 41, USC 35
A week to rest up for the Badgers, and USC is coming off a road game at Michigan. Wisconsin kicks the Trojans while they’re down. Plus, the offense gets a nice confidence boost playing against one of the worst defenses in football. Winning here is the consolation prize for being competitive against Bama.
Week 6 – Purdue at Wisconsin
Saturday Oct 5th
Line: TBD
Prediction: Win – Wisco 35, Purdue 13
Wisconsin has not lost to Purdue since 2003. That will not change in 2024.
Week 7 – Wisconsin at Rutgers
Saturday Oct 12th
Line: TBD
Prediction: Loss (OT) – Rutgers 31, Wisconsin 24
This is the heartbreaker. Rutgers is better than people think, and it’s a long road trip. I flip-flopped on this result for a while, but ultimately I think Wisconsin isn’t where they want to be as a team yet. Fickell has more work to do.
Week 8 – Wisconsin at Northwestern
Saturday Oct 19th
Line: TBD
Prediction: Win – Wisco 17, Northwestern 7
Wisconsin and Northwestern are 5-5 over their last 10 matchups. Northwestern won the last one, so Wisconsin wins this one. This game will bring back B1G West football – low scoring and borderline unwatchable.
*This game is being played at a practice field with temporary grandstands while NW has a fancy new stadium under construction. Does this matter? Not really, but I find it interesting.
Week 9 – 8 Penn State at Wisconsin (Homecoming)
Saturday Oct 26th
Line: Penn State -6.5
Prediction: Loss – Penn State 34, Wisconsin 17
Wisconsin’s 2nd massive home game of the season. Despite this being homecoming, the setup is not very favorable for the Badgers. This is Wisconsin’s 5th consecutive game, and PSU is coming off a bye. Penn State is a playoff team this year, and Wisco just can’t keep up.
Week 10 – Wisconsin at 25 Iowa
Saturday Nov 2nd
Line: Iowa -3
Prediction: Win – Wisco 14, Iowa 13
Wisconsin has 3 losses and it’s only week 10, morale is low. They need a win in the worst way to prevent the season from spiraling out of control. The O/U for this game will likely be around 30 points, and I say hammer the under. Wisconsin wins ugly in Iowa City.
Week 11 – OFF
Week 12 – 3 Oregon at Wisconsin
Saturday Nov 16th
Line: Oregon -10.5
Prediction: Loss – Oregon 35, Wisco 24
The 3rd of the 3 big Wisconsin home games. Oregon is competing for Nattys, Wisconsin is begging for 8 wins. I do have Wisconsin covering though. The Badgers have a bye before this one, and the Ducks will have played 8 games straight in 8 weeks. Wisconsin could also be a much better team by November. I’m not predicting a win, but there is a chance for some Nov magic in Camp Randall.
Week 13 – Wisconsin at Nebraska
Saturday Nov 23rd
Line: TBD
Prediction: Win – Wisco 24, Nebraska 20
See the logic for Purdue above. Wisconsin has beaten the Cornhuskers 10 times in a row going back to 2012. Last year’s team needed OT to get it done. This year’s group is able to finish the job inside 4 quarters.
Week 14 – Minnesota at Wisconsin
Black Friday Nov 29th – 11:00 AM
Line: TBD
Prediction: Win – Wisco 28, Minnesota 17
Wisconsin and Minnesota are ships headed in opposite directions. Wisconsin is ascending, and Minnesota is flailing. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Fighting Flecks have given up on their coach at this point. Wisconsin wins comfortably to finish a bumpy season on a positive note.
The Badgers end the season with all 3 rivalry trophies in their trophy case.
Final Record:
Wisconsin 8-4
The Badgers have an O/U win total of 6.5 on most gambling sites. So making a bowl game is no guarantee. Based on the games that already have spreads out, Wisconsin will be an underdog at least 5 times this season, possibly up to 7 with At Nebraska and At Rutgers lines being TBD.
I think Wisconsin has improved significantly over the 2023 squad. Despite the schedule being much harder than last year, I think Wisconsin still manages to improve their win total (from 7 to 8).
Maybe there are slip-ups I don’t see like Northwestern or Iowa. Or maybe Camp Randall is a bigger factor than I realize, and the Badgers win 1 of the 3 home games vs top 10 competition.
Only 9 days to go till Badger Football.
