Badger fans want everyone fired, let’s entertain that thought. Also, Wisconsin doesn’t look like a bowl team this year. Yikes.

Saturday was pathetic. Fickell called it an ass whooping, I’d say he’s underselling how bad it was. 

Is Fickell on the hot seat?

Absolutely not. His buyout is 30 million dollars; who’s paying that? It’s like people don’t remember the damage Paul Chryst did to the program. Recruiting was down below Indiana and Rutgers levels for multiple years. In the era of the transfer portal, it is possible to turn around rosters quickly, but that likely isn’t going to work at Wisconsin. In the NIL era, Wisconsin is a relatively low budget school. Bucky can’t afford to pay high end transfers. Transfers can fill depth roles or help with weak spots, but the best players on the team are going to come through recruiting. Fickell’s 1st recruiting class was the 2nd best ever at Wisconsin, and some of those true freshmen are already playing. I feel comfortable saying Fick has until mid 2026 to figure this out. By then all the coach Chryst stink will be out of the program. 

Is Tressel on the hot seat?

IDK. The defense is definitely worse since Jim Leonhard left. But a lot of the issues can be attributed to the fact that Wisconsin just doesn’t have the Jimmy’s and the Joe’s. The D-Line is a joke and the pass rush is non-existent. Fickell is a defensive minded head coach, and I would trust him to make decisions regarding the DC. 

Is Longo on the hot seat?

Maybe… Personally, I don’t think the “Air Raid” is a good idea in Wisconsin. But I haven’t even seen the offense function as intended. I understand that in 2 years Longo has lost his starting QB both times. But, Locke has experience in the system and almost won the starting job this offseason. 

If the Air Raid doesn’t take massive steps forward by the end of the season, I’d say it’s time to let Longo go. 

Who would you go get? 

Promote WR coach Kenny Guiton to OC. He’s a young, A+ recruiter, who is already getting buzz as a future OC or QB coach at the power conference level. Guiton can run whatever offense he wants. It will likely be QB/WR centric: Air Raid, Pro Style, Read Option, or something else.

To get bowl eligible Wisconsin has to win 4 of these 5 games:

Vs Purdue, At Rutgers, At Northwestern, At Iowa, Vs Minnesota
Wisconsin is likely an underdog for the Rutgers and Iowa games. So Bucky will need to pull an upset just to get to six wins. 

The team that walked onto the field last Saturday is not good enough to win 6 games in 2024. It’s time for Fickell to earn his contract by proving me wrong and improving this team dramatically in only a few short months.
